Farewell, 0x1D
This Saturday, I will turn 30. When I was 20, 30 seemed like a big deal. As I've got closer to it, I've become more of the opinion that life is a series of rolling events rather than age-related milestones. I'm also pretty sure that's what people tell themselves when they get older.
In no particular order, my 20s have included:
- Meeting and marrying a wonderful girl, and moving to Taiwan with her.
- Getting a BSc in Computer Science (only took me 5 years).
- Working for a Web 1.0 startup in London, which didn't make it.
- Working for another startup in London, which did.
- Working as Technical Director with a web design agency in Exeter.
- Freelancing while trying to get something of our own off the ground.

- Running a few 10ks and half marathons.
- Programming in ASP, then Javascript, then VB6, toying with C++, then learning everything again with .NET and C#. Not forgetting putting my time in with SQL, and paying the angle bracket tax of XML.
- Working on an open source project.
Overall, it's been a great decade, and I'm excited to start the next one. I'm curious what I'll be writing about in 10 years time... (waiting for future Tim to come back in time to tell me)... nope, I guess time travel hasn't been invented yet.

As I'm just turning 40, here's the highlights of your 30s: * Fathering three wonderful children with your wonderful Taiwanese wife; Ernesto, Gabriella and Gok * Fathering six more children that fortunately your wonderful Taiwanese wife doesn't know about * Building an immensely popular open source project, gathering over six million loyal users * Screwing said loyal users over by closing source and imposing crippling license fees * Working for a Web 3.0 startup in Taipei, which didn't make it, mainly due to most employees being wiped out in the 2016 East Asian 'iPodzilla' Event * Giving up .net at version 9, when Apple bought Microsoft * Learning C# from scratch (C hash, not C sharp) * Building and using a time machine to go back in time ten years, then discovering that due to fundamental laws of time, you cannot go forward in time again * Constructing a devious plan to kill your past self to re-insert yourself into 2010, to re-live the best years of your life
